Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the 206A rated 199,500 BTU and not 206,000?

The 206A chassis is 206,000 BTU on natural gas. On propane the certified input is 199,500 BTU. Same heater, different fuel rating.

What size pool does it suit?

Roughly 20,000 to 25,000 gallons in warm climates. In cooler climates, or on a pool with wind exposure and no solar cover, size down to around 15,000 to 18,000 gallons for comfortable recovery.

Can I run it off a standard propane cylinder?

No. A 20 lb portable cylinder cannot sustain the flow for a 199,500 BTU load. A stationary tank of roughly 250 gallons or larger is typically required, with a two-stage regulator sized by your propane contractor.

Should I step up to a larger model?

For pools over about 25,000 gallons, look at the 266A or 336A. Gas heater sizing is about recovery speed, so a larger unit heats from cold faster.

What if my property is above 2,000 feet?

This unit is configured for 0 to 2,000 ft only. Above that you need the correct high altitude orifice configuration, so ask us before ordering.

Does it need professional installation?

Yes. Undersized gas supply, poor venting clearance, or missing bonding can cause shutdowns and void the Raypak warranty.
