This is the complete replacement heat exchanger for Pentair MasterTemp 400 HD and Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm 400 HD pool and spa heaters, and it also upgrades standard MasterTemp 400 and Max-E-Therm 400 natural gas or propane heaters built after January 12, 2009 to the corrosion resistant HD heat exchanger.

Will this fit my standard MasterTemp 400, or only the HD model?

Both. It is the factory part for the 400 HD, and it is an approved upgrade for any standard MasterTemp 400 or Max-E-Therm 400 built after January 12, 2009. Check the manufacture date on the heater rating plate.

What is the difference between 474061 and 474065?

474061 is the standard copper heat exchanger. 474065 is the heavy duty cupro-nickel version, which holds up much better with salt systems and unbalanced water chemistry.

Do I need to buy the igniter and gaskets separately?

No. The igniter, sealing O-rings, insulation kit, and blower adapter plate with gasket are all included in the box.

How do I know my heat exchanger needs replacing?

Common signs are water leaking from the heater, low flow or heater cycling, sooting, or the heater failing to reach set temperature. Confirm the diagnosis before ordering since the part is not returnable once installed.
