What is the difference between the PLC1400 and the PLC700?
Capacity. The PLC1400 is the 14-blade cell rated to 40,000 gallons; the PLC700 is the smaller-capacity cell. Fitting an undersized cell to a large pool means running it far longer to hit the same chlorine output, which shortens its life.
Can I put a larger cell on a smaller pool?
Yes, and it is often a sensible move. A cell running well below its maximum output lasts longer than one running flat out. Just set the output percentage down accordingly.
What does self-cleaning mean here?
The system periodically reverses polarity across the plates, which loosens the calcium scale that naturally forms during chlorine generation. It reduces manual acid-bath cleaning but does not eliminate it entirely, especially in hard water.
How long should a salt cell last?
Service life depends on runtime, output setting, water chemistry and how well calcium is controlled. Keeping calcium hardness and pH in range, and not running the cell at maximum output constantly, are the two things most within your control.
Do I need to add salt when I replace the cell?
Not because of the cell itself. Salt is consumed only through splash-out, backwashing and dilution from rain, so test your salt level and correct it if it has drifted below your system's target range.
Can I install it myself?
Usually yes. The cell unions from the plumbing and unplugs from the controller. Shut off the pump first, note the flow direction arrow on the cell body, and do not overtighten the unions.
