The Jandy 4717 is a three port NeverLube diverter valve for 2 inch plumbing, with 2.5 inch sockets so it also solvent welds to 2.5 inch pipe. It is the valve most equipment pads use to switch flow between pool and spa, or to send water to a water feature, cleaner line, or second return.
NeverLube is the reason this valve has been the industry standard for decades. Conventional diverter valves use a greased O-ring on the stem that dries out, drags, and eventually leaks, so they need periodic lubrication. The NeverLube design uses a proprietary seal material that runs dry for the life of the valve. You install it and stop thinking about it.
The body is CPVC, not standard PVC, so it holds up to hot water off a heater and to chemical exposure that cracks lesser valves. The top is removable, which means you can pull the diverter to clear debris or replace seals without cutting the valve out of your plumbing. The handle can be indexed to any of eight positions during assembly so it points where you want it on a tight pad.
The 4717 is also built to accept a Jandy 4424 valve actuator. If you later add automation, you unbolt the handle and drop the actuator on the same valve rather than replumbing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size pipe does this fit?
It takes 2 inch pipe inside the socket and 2.5 inch pipe over the outside of the socket. That is why it is listed as a 2 inch by 2.5 inch valve. If your plumbing is 1.5 inch, the 4715 is the correct valve instead.
What is the difference between the 4717 and the 4715?
Plumbing size only. The 4715 handles 1.5 inch by 2 inch, the 4717 handles 2 inch by 2.5 inch. Both are three port NeverLube diverters.
Do I ever need to grease it?
No. That is the point of NeverLube. Adding pool lube to the stem seal is not necessary and can attract grit.
Can I automate this valve later?
Yes. Remove the handle and mount a Jandy 4424 valve actuator on the same valve body. No replumbing required.
Can I replace just the diverter or the O-rings?
Yes. The top is removable and Jandy sells the diverter, cover O-ring, and stem O-rings as service parts. Most leaking valves are repairable without a full replacement.
Can I turn the handle to a half open position?
Yes. The diverter can be set anywhere between full port positions to split flow, which is how most pool and spa returns are balanced.
Which way does it install?
Two ports on one side, one on the other. On a pool and spa setup the single port is usually the common line from the pump or filter, and the two ports feed pool and spa. Confirm against your plumbing before gluing.
Do I need special glue?
Use a PVC or CPVC solvent cement rated for the pipe you are joining, with primer where code requires it. Do not overapply cement into the valve body.
