Buy the IntelliValve 521485 if you're doing a new automation install, if you've fought with cam adjustment before, or if your valve needs a stop position that isn't a simple 180 degree swing. The programmable stops are the real selling point. Plumbing is never perfectly textbook, and being able to fine-tune where the valve lands without opening the actuator up saves real frustration.
Signs your old actuator needs replacing
Before you buy either one, make sure the actuator is actually the problem. Common symptoms of a failing actuator include:

- The motor hums or grinds but the valve doesn't rotate, which usually means stripped gears
- The valve stops in the wrong position or overshoots
