Doughboy · True Inground Pool Kits
A steel-wall inground pool kit with room to choose the layout, depth, entry, and finish.
Built around your pool plan
DB Trimax is Doughboy’s true inground pool kit series. The rectangular pools use a 42-inch steel wall structure and can be configured with a flat bottom or a deep-end hopper, along with a selected step, coping, and liner.
It is a pool kit rather than a turnkey installation. Excavation, concrete work, installation, and the surrounding deck or patio need to be planned for the site separately.
True inground rectangle pool kits, with a flat-bottom or deep-end option.
A flat-bottom pool series designed for semi-inground installation and also available fully inground.
Start with the footprint that fits your yard and how you want to use the pool. DB Trimax is available in five rectangular sizes, with a flat bottom or a deep-end hopper on most configurations.
All sizes are rectangular with softly rounded 6-inch radius corners.
A pool’s listed dimensions describe the nominal pool size. Confirm excavation, wall, coping, deck, and setback requirements with the current plan and local professionals before finalizing the layout.
Depth depends on the selected size and step configuration.
A consistent 3′ 4″ depth from end to end. A straightforward profile for standing, wading, and general recreation.
Each hopper starts at a 3′ 4″ shallow end and slopes to a deeper end. The available deep-end depth depends on pool size.
| Pool size | Hopper depth |
|---|---|
| 12′ × 24′ | 6′ deep end |
| 14′ × 28′ | 6′ deep end |
| 16′ × 32′ | 8′ deep end* |
| 18′ × 36′ | 8′ deep end |
| 20′ × 40′ | 8′ deep end |
*16′ × 32′ step exception: With the Full Width Step and 6′ Sunledge, the deep end is 6′ to accommodate the step. Check the spec sheet for the exact size-and-step combination.
DB Trimax offers three liner-covered steel step designs and an 8-foot fiberglass step option. These simplified plan-view diagrams show the general placement of each entry style; the official size-specific spec sheet is the installation reference.
These steps are integrated into the pool layout and covered with the selected pool liner, creating a continuous visual finish from the pool floor up the entry.
Prefer a contrasting molded step? The 8-foot fiberglass option is available in two edge styles and three colors.
At the heart of every DB Trimax pool is a 42-inch steel wall system. The panels form the pool’s perimeter, while the engineered bracing and hardware help secure the structure in its installed layout.
Doughboy describes DB Trimax walls as 42-inch steel panels made with U.S.-sourced steel and a proprietary corrosion-resistant coating. The pool kit also includes the bracing and hardware specified for the selected pool size and configuration.
The DB Trimax wall system is built around 42-inch steel panels.
Doughboy identifies the steel used for the wall structure as U.S.-sourced.
A proprietary coating is applied to help protect the steel wall panels.
Configuration-specific components Panel layouts, braces, stakes, and hardware vary with pool size and options. Use the matching DB Trimax specification sheet for the exact bill of materials.
Site preparation is part of the project The steel kit does not include excavation, concrete footer work, or installation. Follow the manufacturer’s current instructions and confirm site, drainage, permitting, and installation requirements with qualified local professionals.
A DB Trimax kit includes the pool structure and core pool components. Optional circulation, sanitation, plumbing, and lighting equipment can be added to build out the configuration.
Doughboy lists the following as included in its DB Trimax kit:
Installation is not included. Excavation, the concrete footer, deck construction, permits, and installation labor are separate project needs. Many owners arrange excavation and footer work with local contractors; confirm the complete scope with the installer and your local building department.
Included components and available options can depend on the pool size, selected configuration, and current package. Review the corresponding DB Trimax specification sheet and written quote before ordering.
Coping creates the finished edge between the pool wall and the surrounding deck. DB Trimax offers two coping styles; the right one depends on the deck material and the edge detail you’re planning.
A rounded coping edge designed for a poured concrete deck. Doughboy lists CP2 Bullnose in white or grey.
A flatter track detail used with a cantilevered concrete edge, pavers, or stone. Doughboy specifies this coping with the 8′ Cantilever fiberglass step.
Decide whether the project uses poured concrete, a cantilevered concrete edge, pavers, or stone before selecting coping. The step style can also affect the required coping: an 8′ Cantilever fiberglass step uses Flat Track Cantilever coping. Confirm compatibility against the pool’s size-specific spec sheet and your installer’s deck detail.
Coping is the pool-edge component. The surrounding deck surface, deck construction, and installation labor are separate project items unless your written package or contractor agreement says otherwise.
A DB Trimax pool is a true inground project. Plan the site, pool configuration, trades, permits, and installation scope together before ordering the kit.
Pool size and step style affect the layout and depth profile. Coping depends on the deck edge, while excavation and footer preparation must match the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Each part of the plan informs the next.
Move through these steps before installation begins.
Review the available footprint, access for excavation and delivery, utilities, drainage, and site conditions. Ask your local building department about permits, setbacks, barriers, and inspections before work starts.
Choose from the five DB Trimax rectangular sizes, then decide on a flat bottom or deep-end hopper, an entry step, coping, and liner pattern. Keep the deck material in mind when choosing coping.
Confirm which pump, filter, chlorinator, plumbing, and light options are included or added. Separately assign excavation, concrete footer, electrical work, installation labor, and deck construction.
Use the matching DB Trimax spec sheet to check the pool layout, depth profile, and bill of materials. Confirm the configuration and written quote before the kit is ordered.
Schedule contractors and inspections around the manufacturer’s installation sequence. Doughboy notes that installation is not included; many owners hire out excavation and the concrete footer, then install the kit themselves or with their own contractor.
Share the selected pool size, step, depth, coping, spec sheet, equipment list, and local approval requirements with the people handling the sitework and installation. This helps surface scope gaps before the kit arrives.
DB Trimax permits, fencing or barriers, inspections, and installation details depend on local rules and the specific site. Follow the current Doughboy installation and safety documents, and confirm requirements with your local authorities and qualified contractors.
Quick answers about DB Trimax pool sizes, depths, kit contents, and project planning.
DB Trimax is offered in five rectangular sizes: 12′ × 24′, 14′ × 28′, 16′ × 32′, 18′ × 36′, and 20′ × 40′.
Every kit can be configured with a 3′ 4″ flat bottom or a deep-end hopper. The 12′ × 24′ and 14′ × 28′ reach 6′ deep; the 16′ × 32′, 18′ × 36′, and 20′ × 40′ generally reach 8′ deep. The 16′ × 32′ with the Full Width Step and 6′ Sunledge is 6′ deep to accommodate that step.
The listed kit includes the 42″ steel wall structure, bracing and hardware, coping, a vinyl liner, the selected step, handrail, deep-end ladder, rope kit, safety packet, and a standard skimmer/drain/return arrangement. The skimmer, drain, and return configuration may be changed. Confirm exact contents on the written quote and spec sheet.
A pump and sand filter, inline chlorinator, flexible plumbing kit, and LED pool light are listed as optional additions. Ask what is included in the exact package you are considering before comparing prices.
Options include a Full Width Step, Full Width Step with 6′ Sunledge, Corner Step with Full Width Bench, and an 8′ fiberglass step in Bullnose or Cantilever style. The three steel styles are covered by the pool liner. Fiberglass steps are available in white, blue, or grey.
CP2 Bullnose coping is intended for a poured concrete deck. Flat Track Cantilever coping is used with a cantilevered concrete edge, pavers, or stone. Doughboy specifies Flat Track Cantilever coping with the 8′ Cantilever fiberglass step. Confirm the edge detail with your installer.
Installation is not included. DB Trimax kits are designed for DIY installation, but many owners hire contractors for excavation and the concrete footer. Doughboy says only a limited number of participating dealers install DB Trimax pools, so check local availability if you want dealer installation.
Inground pool projects commonly involve permits, barriers, and inspections. Requirements depend on local code and the property. Check with your local building department before beginning work, and install the safety signs as directed in the kit’s safety packet.
The DB Trimax specification sheets show the pool layout, step placement, depth profile, and bill of materials for a specific size and step option. Use the exact sheet for your planned configuration.
